THE FOOD PANTRY

If you, or someone you know, would like to receive food, just come to the Church's Fellowship Hall at 2930 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027 and sign in. Food is distributed and donated from 5:30-6:15pm every Wednesday night. Hope-Net doesn't do a full background check, but our tag line: "We serve our low-income neighbors with little or no kitchen access" defines our purpose.

We operate our Food Pantry under the wings of Silverlake Aid, t.323.663.3151 and we are affiliated with Hope-Net and also the LA Food Bank You can give canned goods, ready to eat food (ie: food for those with limited kitchen access), monetary contributions, and, you can just as valuably give of your time! We need volunteers!

When questioned, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus answered simply, "...love your neighbor as yourself."(Matthew 22:36-39) His words motivate us at Silverlake; they drive us to greater things.

Silverlake Aid was established as an outreach of this teaching, teaming up with Hope Net as their newest neighborhood distribution center. Since 1988, Hope Net has served over a million lower-income people in the Los Angeles Area.We use this candid teaching in devoting ourselves to serving Christ. Because we strive to "love our neighbor as ourselves" and to provide for our community's need, Christ’s vine of love is planted with the food pantry serving canned food and ready-to-eat meals.

Other Food Ministries Developing at Silverlake Church
Something is stirring at Silverlake! Silverlake has just established a relationship with a local urban farmer. Beginning October 9 our parking lot will be a distribution point for locally grown, organic produce. How does this connect with spirituality? Well, this dovetails nicely with an ongoing discussion at Silverlake about providing hot meals to people in our congregation and our community. Soon we will be using some of our deacon funds to prepare and freeze meals for church members who are going to through financial, physical, or economic challenges. We will continue to research the neediest demographics in the community around us and how we might serve them as well. “If any of you has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in you?” (I John 3:17) For more information on these and other opportunities at Silverlake Church, please call Patti Hollis at the church office: 323-663-3151
